Feel the Force Luke Skywalker-style in this realistic 'Star Wars' helmet (exclusive)
Star Wars Celebration has kicked off in Chicago, bring fans up close and personal with the new film (The Rise of Skywalker!), TV shows, theme park experiences and lots of amazing toys. On Friday, Hasbro will announce a stunning reproduction of the helmet that Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) wore during the climactic Battle of Yavin in the first Star Wars film, A New Hope, as well as in the Battle of Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back — and Yahoo Entertainment has your exclusive first look.
The insanely detailed helmet, complete with visor, was recreated from the Lucasfilm archives and features sound and light effects. Hasbro promises “synchronized LED lights and three speakers [will] create an immersive battle simulation experience, featuring energy blaster fire FX and communication from R2-D2. Flip the switch inside the helmet to choose between a simulation of piloting an X-wing at the Battle of Yavin or a Snowspeeder at the Battle of Hoth.”
The “Star Wars: The Black Series Luke Skywalker Battle Simulation Electronic Helmet” will be available for $99 this fall — Hasbro hasn’t set an exact date, but expect it on shelves by this year’s Force Friday on Oct. 4, which will see the launch of all sorts of new Star Wars merchandise, including tie-ins for the upcoming Episode IX, now officially titledThe Rise of Skywalker. It’s also available for preorder at GameStop, Walmart, Target, Amazon, Entertainment Earth and Pulse.
Meanwhile, fans attending Star Wars Celebration will have the chance to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Phantom Menace by purchasing tricked-out six-inch action figures from the film’s most iconic scene. Sold separately for $24.99 each, the “Duel of the Fates” Black Series Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul come in retro packaging with a full complement of accessories, including lightsabers.
The figures will be available online from Hasbro and select retailers after the convention.
Finally, with Episode IX concluding the “Skywalker Saga,” Luke and his family will be front and center at Celebration. Hasbro’s booth will feature a series of images created by some of Instagram’s top toy photographers in which the deluxe “Black Series” action Luke figures are depicted in classic scenes from the films. Here’s the first look at 15 of these #HasbroToyPic shots.
Star Wars Celebration runs through April 15.
