FERG Opens Up About Being Molested As A Child By Older Man
FERG has revealed that he was once sexually assaulted as a child by an older man in his neighborhood, an incident the rapper detailed on his new studio album, Darold.
According to the song, “Pool,” the Harlem native was molested at nine years-old while at a local swimming pool, an experience that left FERG feeling “weird” and led to him contemplating about killing the offender.
FERG recently added context to the lyrics on the track during a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, remembering the violation occurring suddenly and in a public space.
“It was an incident that happened in a pool when I was a young kid and everybody’s around and everything like that,” he explained to the show’s hosts. “For me, it was weird and it was one second, but I was like, why?” According to FERG, the culprit, who “touched” or “groped” him, was much older than him.
The rapper says he first told an older cousin about the incident before later revealing the encounter to his mother while the pair was attending a premiere of the 2009 film Precious, which also tackled the topic of child molestation.
FERG explained his reasoning behind going public on the matter, as he feels his transparency will help lessen the stigma around sexual assault of males and cause others to confront the matter.
“Everywhere, I feel like this sh*t is going on and people are not just gonna talk about it,” he said. “I’m like, ‘What am I talking about?’ I didn’t make that happen to me. That sh*t ain’t mine to be tryna hold inside.”
On “Pool,” he recounts the experience of being molested in vivid detail, including the physical and emotional toll it took on him in that moment and later on in life. “At 10, I was drowned and touched when I was in the pool/ All the breath left my body where I couldn’t move/ Violated, hand on my private by a bigger dude,” he raps.
“Seconds felt like forever, really wasn’t cool/ When he seen me ’round the block, he’d smile and laugh/ As if we had a little secret, and I hated that/ Thinking ’bout what he did really made me mad/ Even thought about murder, wanted to kill his a**.”
