The first ever gluten-free food fest is coming to Providence. What you need to know.
Fresh off another successful weekend of RI VegFest, Robin Dionne and husband BJ Mansuetti have shared news of their next big thing, GFree Fest.
Their company, Ampersand Creative Co., is launching GFree Fest, the state’s only fully gluten-free food festival, on Saturday, March 23 at WaterFire Arts Center, 475 Valley St. in Providence.
The inaugural event is presented by 110 Grill, which has a large gluten-free menu and is an allergen-friendly restaurant chain. Their restaurant in Providence is at Fountain Street.
GFree Fest will feature dozens of restaurants, bakeries, and food and beverage producers showcasing their gluten-free products and skills. Guests can sample and learn more about products from national brands and the locals.
GFree Fest will include local gluten-free spirits from The Industrious Spirit Company and hard seltzers from Sprawl Hard Seltzer at the event’s gluten-free bar. Local gluten-free grocery store, May’s Gluten Free, will be there, as will national brands including Jovial, Brazi Bites and Queen Street Bakery. More businesses will be announced later.
The event has a personal backstory.
“I spent nearly a decade in the beer industry before learning that I have celiac disease,” said Mansuetti. “While the diagnosis explained so much about many of the health issues I had been struggling with, it was difficult to suddenly make drastic changes to my lifestyle and career path, and I didn’t know where to start. I know I’m not the only one, and I feel that bringing a large gluten-free community together is one of the best ways to adjust to gluten-free living.”
Mansuetti left the beer industry to follow his passion for large-scale community events and started Ampersand Creative Co. with Dionne. As a 25-year-plus vegan, she has learned and shared information about food alternatives and food allergies.
Tickets are $8 and for event info and ticket availability, visit gfreefest.com but do it soon. VIP Tickets are sold out. Tickets for entry at 3 p.m. are currently available.
GFree Fest has partnered with local compost processor, Bootstrap Compost, to help ensure that as much waste as possible will be diverted from the landfill and transformed into usable soil. The event will use fully compostable products.
