After months of first-look photos (and just one brief teaser) circulating the internet, the first official trailer for the long-awaited Joker sequel, Joker Folie à Deux, has arrived at last. In the first look at the follow-up to the 2019 film, Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role as Arthur Fleck – who, for the first time, finally meets someone who actually understands him.
Enter Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. "When I first saw Joker, when I first saw you..." she recalls, mimicking his gunshot-to-the-head action.
"For once in my life, I didn't feel so alone anymore," she continues.
"For once in my life, I have someone who needs me," Fleck echoes her sentiment, serenading to the television screen in the Arkham Asylum.
The film chronicles the origin stories of the dastardly duo, following them as they wreak havoc throughout Gotham City – where most of the residents deem Fleck a martyr rather than a monster as his criminal trial continues.
"I won't allow any of you to keep me down," Fleck asserts, as footage of him and Harley Quinn dancing, singing, strutting the streets and, of course, smiling real big surfaces across the screen.
"You can do anything you want. You're Joker," she assures him ahead of their grand finale.
Stream the official trailer above, and catch Joker Folie à Deux in theaters on October 4.
