Remember in Mean Girls when Cady, Janis, and Damian try to bring Regina George down? (We’re referring to the classic 2004 movie here, not the 2024 musical version, obvi.) Along with replacing her skincare with foot cream, the trio *also* cuts two holes in her tank top at the bust, so her purple bra is on full display as she struts down the high school hallways. Rather than embarrassing the queen bee, she instead makes it a ~lewk~, with all the other girls soon following suit.
All this to say, we have a pretty good idea what the inspiration behind Dolce & Gabbana’s black fitted midi dress is. Enter: Florence Pugh, who modeled it as she made her British Vogue debut on the magazine’s October cover. With a dramatic scoop neckline that exposes pretty much her entire torso, the dress reveals a transparent lace black bra worn beneath. Yep, anything Regina can do, Flo can do better.
The actor’s take on the cut-out trend is a grown-up version, which she merges with the office siren aesthetic perfectly. The elegant balloon sleeves and pencil silhouette of the design, paired with practical sling-back pumps, also by the Italian design house, and an oversized Philosophy leather clutch bag lend a business feel to the ensemble. But that aforementioned cut-out keeps things firmly in boardroom babe territory.
Elsewhere in Flo’s accompanying photoshoot, she rocks a series of retro-inspired ‘fits. The throwback feels exaggerated by her voluminous layered blonde bob, which is reminiscent of Princess Diana’s trademark ‘do.
While one shot sees her channel ‘70s style in a shaggy, fur-trimmed corduroy coat and oversized square sunglasses, her more ladylike attire in a blue knit short-sleeve sweater and floral printed pencil skirt is giving Don’t Worry Darling—aka the 2022 film she starred in with Harry Styles that adopted midcentury costumes.
After largely stepping out of the spotlight for most of this year, we’re thrilled to see Florence back and looking better than ever!
