Folk rockers The Avett Brothers coming to Des Moines in August. Here's how to score tickets
Folk rockers The Avett Brothers made a date with Des Moines this summer when they play Wells Fargo Arena. The three-time Grammy Award nominees return to central Iowa on Aug. 25.
Some of the band’s biggest songs include “Ain't No Man,” “Murder in the City,” “If It’s The Beaches” and “Head Full Of Doubt/Road Full of Promise.” The Avett Brothers last played central Iowa in 2021 at Hinterland.
Two brothers, Scott Avett and Seth Avett, along with Bob Crawford and Joe Kwon made their major label debut in 2009 with “I And Love And You,” which landed at No. 16 on the Billboard Top 200. Then in 2012, “The Carpenter” reached No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200, followed by “Magpie And The Dandelion,” which debuted at No. 5 on Billboard’s Top 200 in 2013.
In 2016, the band was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame. Their 2017 documentary “May It Last: A Portrait of The Avett Brothers,” which was co-directed by Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio, chronicles the process of writing 2016’s “True Sadness,” a No. 1 debut on Billboard’s Top Albums chart, No. 1 Rock Albums, No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and scored two Grammy nominee.

In 2019, the band released their 10th studio album, “Closer Than Together,” featuring the single “High Steppin’,” which reached No. 1 on the Americana Radio Singles Chart. The band’s newest album, “The Third Gleam,” came out in August 2020 at No. 1 on Billboard’s Americana/Folk Albums chart, No. 1 Rock Albums, and No. 1 Vinyl Albums. The single “Victory” hit No. 1 on the Americana Radio Singles Chart.
