Food Network Orders New Series Featuring Smollett Siblings, Ayesha Curry (EXCLUSIVE)
For more evidence that the Smollett acting clan is taking over TV, look no further than Food Network.
The cabler has ordered six half-hour episodes of “Smollett Eats,” which will showcase favorite foods and recipes among the six siblings that include “Empire’s” Jussie Smollett and “Underground’s” Jurnee Smollett. Jake Smollett (“Eve’s Bayou”) is the head chef of the family that also includes brothers Jocqui and Jojo and sister Jazz. “Smollett Eats,” which bows in August, hails from Triage Entertainment.
Food Network has also enlisted Ayesha Curry, wife of Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, to host a six-episode series shot at her home. “Ayesha’s Homemade” will blend cooking segments with glimpses of her life as the wife of an NBA star and mother to two young daughters. The half-hour series from High Noon Entertainment is targeting a fall debut.
“It’s an exciting time for Food Network as demand for food-centric content seems to be at an all-time high,” said Didi O’Hearn, senior VP of programming for Food Network and Cooking Channel.
Actor Greg Grunberg is also set to host the July 17 Food Network special “Nickel and Dining,” featuring his search with friends for good but cheap food in Los Angeles.
On the Cooking Channel, “Star Plates” is a new series featuring celebs stepping in as line cooks at their favorite restaurants. Mindy Kaling, Colin Hanks, Erin Andrews, Minka Kelly and Alyson Hannigan are among the notables set to take part in the show from Authentic Entertainment and Flower Films. “Star Plates” is set to bow in August.
