Former 'American Idol' contestant Antonella Barba arrested on drug charge
American Idol alum Antonella Barba is making headlines for something other than her voice.
Barba, who competed on the show in 2007, alongside eventual winner Jordin Sparks, was arrested Thursday in Norfolk, Va. According to the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office, the 31-year-old is charged with distributing 100 grams or more of heroin. She is being held without bond in the Norfolk City Jail.
Barba was scheduled to go to court Monday in Norfolk, according to the local Virginian-Pilot.
Barba is a native of New Jersey. Although she made it into the top 16 finalists, she also made headlines during her stint on Idol because of racy photographs that surfaced showing, among other things, her wearing only a wet T-shirt and underwear at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. The women on The View even debated whether she should be kicked off the show. (Barba said at the time that the photos were “personal private property” that “got into the hands of the wrong people.”)
Since Idol, Barba has appeared in a 2012 episode of Fear Factor and has acted in several short films. She worked with Eddie Griffin and Casper Van Dien in last year’s All About the Money.
In May, she was one of the competition show’s former contestants who appeared in a sketch on Jimmy Kimmel Live! The singer also performed the national anthem at a Los Angeles Dodgers game in April.
