What Happened With Scotty McCreery?

McCreery was performing at the Colorado State Fair and singing the song “It Matters To Her,” which he wrote for his wife, when he stopped the show after noticing an altercation in the crowd, a video posted on social media and reported by US Weekly shows.

“Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Right here. Right here,” McCreery can be heard saying on the video, which was first circulated after being posted to Facebook on Sunday. “That’s a lady you just hit, sir. Absolutely not. Who just hit the lady?”

The singer then proceeded to call for security and police.

“Is she OK? Get the heck out of here,” the singer said, later telling the crowd from the stage. “Y’all let the cop know who hit the lady. That’s absolutely unacceptable.” The show was stopped for a couple of minutes while McCreery was satisfied the matter had been handled. He then went on singing after the police retired from the venue, presumably with the person the crowd had identified as the one to assault the woman.

“On God’s green earth. At a Scotty McCreery show? What are you doing?” the singer also said, as he was waiting for the police.

Colorado State Fair officials confirmed to USA Today that an incident had taken place, but did not provide any additional information on the man in question. “We can confirm that an incident took place at the Scotty McCreery concert where a man assaulted a woman and the performer stopped the show,” Olga Robak, director of communications with The Colorado Department of Agriculture said. “This incident is still under investigation and we cannot comment further.”

McCreery was the winner of American Idol Season 10. The series, which was rebooted by ABC in 2018 is going into Season 23. The show, which has been hosted by Ryan Seacrest since Season 1, will have a judging panel that consists of Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and another former American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood.
