Former Disney Star Bridgit Mendler Clarifies She Doesn't Have Her PhD Yet — But 'I'll Still Fight for It’
The 31-year-old, who has been lauded online for her prolific educational career, set the record straight on her PhD progress
Bridgit Mendler’s career has been nothing short of prolific, but there’s one achievement that she can’t claim quite yet.
On Thursday, the former Disney Channel star, 31, shared an update with her renewed fanbase as she clarified what degrees she has — and which ones she’s still working towards — just two weeks after she announced that she’s the CEO of space startup Northwood Space.
“It came to my attention that something on my LinkedIn profile is causing confusion that I want to clarify: I am 2 months away from a JD and I don’t already have a PhD,” she wrote in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Mendler has been praised online for the way she’s diversified her career in recent years, most notably through higher education studies at Harvard Law School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
“The PhD is something I started working towards in 2020 and I pursued it jointly with my law degree but when I moved to California last summer and decided that for family reasons we would stay on the west coast, it had to go on pause. I apologize I really should have updated my LinkedIn page sooner,” she continued, referencing that her LinkedIn profile previously stated that she was still working toward a PhD in philosophy from MIT.

Regarding the status of her doctorate, she continued, "I'll still fight for it, but how it gets completed is up to the administration and my principal investigator and what they think is appropriate."
In the post, Mendler also reflected on her mindset in recent years as she’s gone through life changes — like becoming a mother to her foster son in 2022, which she also announced on X.
"The other news I wanted to share is I'm a mama to a sweet 4yo boy," she wrote in February. "Started fostering in 2021 adopted near Christmas of 2022."

The Good Luck Charlie alum said that she, like “any parent or person trying to juggle hard things,” has had to “make hard choices.”
“My parents have a saying: ‘do everything it’s a blast.’ I enjoy pushing the boundary of the possible and saying yes to more things but also it is important to flex the muscle of prioritization and discernment,” Mendler continued. “For myself I’ve found that learning when to say no or not right now can be more of a skill than saying yes.”
In addition, she asked her LinkedIn followers for advice on how to "best express my circumstance" about her PhD. She wrote, "Would happily take suggestions."

She earned an undergraduate degree in anthropology from the University of Southern California and a master's degree from MIT, and she is currently leading the efforts of Northwood Space, as she announced last month.
"We are designing shared ground infrastructure from first principles to expand access to space. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but that’s the fun part," she wrote on X about the startup, which she described as creating a “data highway between earth and space.”
