Fox cancels 'The Gifted' and 'Rel'
The Gifted and Rel are no more— Fox’s first cancelations of the season.
Marvel’s sci-fi superseries set in the world of X-Men will not return to the network after two seasons and Lil Rel Howery’s sitcom will not return after one season, EW has confirmed.
Rel was co-created by and starred Get Out‘s Howery, who played multiple characters. The comedy also featured legendary comic Sinbad as Rel’s father.
The Gifted starred True Blood alum Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker (who was recently cast as the final Shepherd sister on Grey’s Anatomy) as the parents of mutant children on the run while being hunted by the government. (Click here to see how the series ended with our finale recap.)
The Gifted joins Netflix’s Jessica Jones, The Punisher, Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist on the list of Marvel shows that have been canceled ahead of the launch of Disney+. (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Legion, and The Runways are on ABC, FX, and Hulu, respectively— all Disney-owned or majority Disney-owned networks/platforms.)
