Fox News' Janice Dean calls out 'tone deaf' Joaquin Phoenix, Stella McCartney over awards season tuxedo
Janice Dean has some thoughts about Joaquin Phoenix's plan to help the environment this awards season.
Stella McCartney revealed the Joker star, who donned one of her custom designs to the Golden Globe Awards, will recycle the same tuxedo to "reduce waste" and "because he chooses to make choices for the future of the planet."
That prompted Dean, a senior meteorologist on Fox News Channel, to reply, "My husband and his coworkers wear the same firefighter outfit when they go into burning buildings to try to save people. But yeah, good for you Joaquin and Stella."
The Fox and Friends personality followed that up by writing how McCartney's tweet is a perfect example of the point Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais was trying to make Sunday night. "Get over yourself, Hollywood," she declared. "There are real people doing more to save humans than you are."
I’m sorry this tweet is exactly what @rickygervais was trying to say the other night at the #GoldenGlobes Get over yourself, Hollywood. There are real people doing more to save humans than you are.

Dean's initial tweet, which has over 5,000 likes and counting, sparked a debate with some of her followers, especially after it was retweeted by Meghan McCain.
"I don’t think there’s a comparison between a firefighter and a celeb. Obviously a firefighter is the real hero," one woman chimed in. "But I do think individuals doing what they can to be less wasteful and to encourage sustainability is good. I appreciate anyone who does that."
The Mostly Sunny author replied, "All due respect, wearing the same expensive tuxedo during awards season is not a huge sacrifice or helpful. It’s tone deaf and ridiculous. If she said she was donating proceeds from her fashion design company to firefighters in Australia, I’d be impressed."
A firefighter and EMT also weighed in, writing, "I get to wear the same 'tux' for 5 years a shot."
God bless you. Thank you my friend.

Another person added, "The comparison doesn’t make sense and is unfair. Everyone has different lives and does what they can in their life to make a difference. Thank you to your husband and his friends for their bravery, but that has nothing to do with this."
Which prompted another user to reply, "Congratulating someone as an environmentalist for wearing the same tux for an entire award season is ridiculous and embarrassing. And it’s smug."
McCartney hasn't responded on Twitter.
During Sunday’s show, Phoenix made a point to bring awareness to the environment during his Golden Globes acceptance speech. He thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for switching to a completely vegan menu for the first time, a move that was supposedly encouraged by the actor. He also called out Hollywood for their carbon footprint, telling the audience, "We don't have to take private jets to Palm Springs ... I'll try to do better, and I hope you will too."
