Fox News runs graphic about Trump cutting aid to '3 Mexican Countries,' Twitter erupts
A segment on Fox News went viral Sunday — for all the wrong reasons.
On Saturday, the State Department announced the United States is cutting off aid to the Central American countries of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. But a graphic that ran on Fox & Friends Weekend Sunday about the decision referred to the three countries as “3 Mexican Countries.” The incorrect headline was only up for a few seconds, but that was plenty of time for Twitter to take notice.
We love Mexico….even the hateful at times @FoxNews loves Mexico! We love Mexico so much, All countries are Mexican….but remember we are not rapist, We are people with Pride, worth ethic, We are immigrants from all over that moves America forward, We are Mexicans….💪👍🏻👊?🏽 pic.twitter.com/oDhxm1KSsN

Come on, we have to get the basics right @FoxNews . You need a fact-checker to tell u that Guatemala, Honduras & ElSalvador are NOT “3 Mexican Countries”? https://t.co/wKL46xuaud

Hi @FoxNews,
There is no such thing as “3 Mexican countries.” There is only 1 country—which is our neighbor—called Mexico.
Trump cut US aid to 3 Central American countries because like the people who work at & watch your network he is a bigot.
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk. pic.twitter.com/gOhzMGYGgq

It’s not just a little mistake, it is a display of total ignorance about the world around them. “Mexican countries” ?? @FoxNews is supposed to be well prepared to inform their community & country about daily events… Go back to school…!! pic.twitter.com/xGhWWwjqAu

Wow…
The sheer stupidity in this image is deafening…
Maybe someone in the newsroom at @foxnews should take some geography courses…
Here’s a question, what are the names of the 3 Mexican countries?
I’ll give you one, Mexico 🇲🇽
Your move, Faux 🤷🏾?♂? pic.twitter.com/bA8V7H8ClY

Fill in co-host, Ed Henry, issued a correction later in the show.
“Now we want to clarify and correct something that happened earlier in the show,” he explained. “We had an inaccurate graphic onscreen while taking about this very story. We just want to be clear, the funding is being cut off to the three Central American countries. We apologize for the error, it never should’ve happened.”
This isn’t the first graphics error the network has encountered. In January, Fox & Friends issued an apology after implying that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had passed away. On The Ingraham Angle, a photo referred to “David” Trump, instead of President Donald Trump. Then there was the gaffe in August, when the network paid tribute to Aretha Franklin with an image of Patti LaBelle.
