Fox News slams Kacey Musgraves over politics: 'She has been Dixie Chick-ified'
Kacey Musgraves is ruffling feathers over at Fox News.
The Grammy-winning singer upset some country music fans — and talking heads — with her recent political comments calling for gun control. Fox News host Ainsley Earhardt invited Fox Nation host and author, Todd Starnes, on to discuss Musgraves's Lollapalooza performance, saying "she has been Dixie Chick-ified." Earhardt was also upset over the "Rainbow" singer's use of profanity.
“What is happening to country music? First of all, she’s up there preaching about gun control, but how 'bout her language? What happened to wholesome country singers?” Earhardt asks.
"I suspect she was put on a... church prayer list after that diatribe at Lollapalooza," Starnes agreed, before talking about "how country music is actually going liberal." Liberalism "kills everything touches," he added. Starnes argued that Musgraves shaming the president and talking about gun control won't play well with "the base" of country music fans who value "God, and country, and family and patriotism."

After Musgraves's Lollapalooza comments made headlines she doubled down on Twitter, exclaiming that something needs to be done.
I love keeping things about the music and usually stay out of politics publicly UNTIL it barrels past political party preference points and dangerously encroaches on fundamental human rights. It’s then not political issue anymore. It’s a matter of heart. Of humanity. Of survival.

Let me be clear - I’m from Texas. I grew up around hunting and guns. There’s a time and place for that and even self protection in ways..but this is different. The system is majorly flawed and NOBODY NEEDS ANYTHING REMOTELY AUTOMATIC. PERIOD. They’re mass killing machines. https://t.co/C4JvQWykRO

"That's all well and good, everybody has an opinion," Starnes continued. "Just don't talk politics. Sing. That's what we pay good money to hear you do. ... She has been Dixie Chick-ified."
"Yeah," Earhardt agreed. "She's the modern-day Dixie Chick." (In 2010, Natalie Maines told concertgoers they were "ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas," referring to George W. Bush.)
"When you're talking about country music, you don't want to talk about going after people's guns," continued Starnes. "That's about like bringing store-bought chicken to Wednesday night church supper."
"Look at Taylor Swift, she's gone political too," Earhardt added.
.@KaceyMusgraves is upset enough about our decades-long streak of mass shootings to use the f-word, but Ainsley Earhardt is most outraged that "she is chanting that vulgar language." pic.twitter.com/ReXVuvt9tF

Musgraves hasn’t commented on Starnes or Earhardt’s opinions, but she likely doesn’t care. The singer retweeted this meme.
