‘The Franchise’ trailer: Superhero movies get the ‘Veep’ treatment from HBO
HBO has revealed the new trailer for “The Franchise,” the network’s upcoming satire of superhero movies.
Created by Jon Brown (“Succession,” “Veep”) and executive produced by Sam Mendes (“Skyfall,” “American Beauty”) and Armando Iannucci (“Veep”), the 10-episode comedy series focuses on the production of the latest installment in a multi-film comic cinematic universe.

Here’s the logline: “A hopeful crew finds themselves trapped inside the dysfunctional, nonsensical, joyous hellscape of franchise superhero moviemaking.”
The series stars Himesh Patel (“Station Eleven”) as the production’s first assistant director, with Lolly Adefope (“Shrill”) as his new deputy. Billy Magnussen plays the film’s star, while guest star Richard E. Grant is the feature’s antagonist. Other cast members include Daniel Bruhl as the film’s director, Jessica Hynes as the director’s assistant, Darren Goldstein as the studio guy, Isaac Powell as the studio’s eyes and ears, and Aya Cash as the film’s new producer. Mendes directed the pilot episode and enlisted Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross to handle the theme music (which can be heard in the new trailer). Jeff Cardoni handled the rest of the score.
Brown, who wrote four episodes of “Succession” – including the Season 1 favorite “Prague” and the Season 2 banger “Vaulter” – is the showrunner.
HBO will debut “The Franchise” on October 6.
