Frank Valentini Hints at Major General Hospital Return
General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini shared a major teaser while he was on the red carpet at the 2024 Daytime Emmys. Speculation on who the returning person could be has had fans in a tizzy.
He Created a Major Buzz with Fans
During the 2024 Daytime Emmy Awards show, ABC’s YouTube series of videos called On The Red Carpet had interviews with several cast members who were asked about their storylines. When it got to head honcho Frank Valentini, he wasted no time in appealing to the viewers’ sense of loyalty, stating, “I would say to the fans, ‘Keep watching, keep supporting us, and keep us on our toes.’”
Next, he was asked if he could tease something for the audience, so he paused for a split second, then cryptically stated, “I’ll tease that a former cast member is coming back, and I think I think the audience will go crazy…” adding with emphasis, “for him.”
Speculation about who could be returning has been all over the map. While many thought it might be John J. York returning as Mac Scorpio, that’s old news and wouldn’t warrant an enigmatic response like that. The main contender for a male character returning to Port Charles has been Bryan Craig (Morgan), who posted a photo of himself and his onscreen dad, Maurice Benard (Sonny), to X, formerly Twitter, on June 16, with the caption, “Happy Father’s Day @MauriceBenard.”

Who Can It Be Now?
But that could be a red herring intended to throw suspicion off of who’s really coming back. As the storyline regarding Anna (Finola Hughes), Valentin (James Patrick Stuart), and the whole Pikeman mess deepens its intrigue, could Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) be returning for one last chance to thwart villains and ride off into the sunset like a proper hero? That would be an ideal situation, but considering he’s retired from acting, that may not be in the cards.
Other contenders include Ted King possibly reprising his role as Alcazar (back from the dead) and Roger Howarth being recast as yet another character. Of course, we know fans would indeed go wild if Nicholas Alexander Chavez brought Spencer Cassadine back to the canvas.
At this point, it’s all merely speculation, and GH is well-known for keeping casting news under wraps until the last minute, so we’ll just have to wait and see. Who do you think is returning?
