‘Frozen’ Hit ‘Let It Go’ Reaches RIAA Diamond Status
The storm rages on! The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced on Wednesday (Aug. 14) that the hit song from Disney’s Frozen, “Let It Go,” is certified diamond, signifying 10 million sales.
The song, which was performed by Idina Menzel’s character Elsa, was written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and double EGOT member Bobby Lopez. At D23, Disney Music Group President Ken Bunt presented a diamond plaque to the duo.

”We love the great Disney songs – they have always inspired us in our work and in our lives! But for “Let It Go,” we looked elsewhere – to powerful female singer-songwriters like Tori Amos, Aimee Mann, Sara Bareilles, Adele. Idina herself was an inspiration too — her voice is so iconic, and we were trying to write for it. She captures both the fragile vulnerability and the surging raw power that we wanted the song to have. We really wrote it for her,” Bobby previously told Billboard of the inspiration behind the song.
When released in 2014, the epic anthem spent 33 weeks on the Hot 100 (peaking at No. 5 for five weeks), spent a whopping 71 weeks on the Streaming Songs chart (peaking at No. 2) and achieved considerable radio success as well, spending 22 and 12 weeks respectively on the Adult Contemporary and Adult Pop Songs airplay charts. The Frozen soundtrack became 2014’s year-end No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
“Let It Go” took home the Oscar for best original song, as well as the Grammy for best song written for visual media. “Let It Go” is also the first diamond award recipient for Walt Disney Records.
The franchise’s adventure will continue with the recently announced Frozen III, currently set for release in 2027.
