(G)I-DLE hits the ‘Klaxon’ with statement performance in return to Bay Area

OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — Hit the “Klaxon.” (G)I-DLE is back in the Bay Area.

K-pop girl group (G)I-DLE made its return to the Bay Area on Sunday night at Oakland Arena for a stop on its “i-DOL World Tour.” (G)I-DLE opened up the show with “Super Lady” as thousands screamed in excitement and sang along to the hit from its 2024 album “2.”

Two years ago, the five-member group of Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi and Shuhua performed at the 2,300-capacity The Warfield in San Francisco. Since last performing in the Bay Area in July 2022, they have raised their profile to perform at the 19,000-capacity Oakland Arena.

After the third song “LATATA,” each member individually introduced themselves to the crowd — met with a roaring applause after each greeting. That was part of the first of four acts in the show.

In the second act, Neverland [the official name of (G)I-DLE’s fanbase] was gifted with a solo performance from each member.

  • Shuhua: “Water” by Tyla (Dance solo)

  • Yuqi: “Radio” (Original unreleased solo song)

  • Minnie: “Change”

  • Soyeon: “Is this bad b****** number?”

  • Miyeon: “Sky Walking” (Original unreleased solo song)

The third act opened up with “Wife” when dozens of fans in the crowd were seen in bright turquoise wigs in honor of the group’s 2024 single. (G)I-DLE performed the song in an all-white, bright turquoise trim outfit with “Oakland” embroidered on the back.

For the penultimate song of the fourth act, (G)I-DLE performed arguably its biggest hit to date “Queencard.” The music video is the group’s most watched with 355 million YouTube views.

(G)I-DLE closed out its nearly 2.5-hour set with “I DO” as the finale to the two-song encore that began with “I Want That.”

The K-pop group signed by Cube Entertainment that debuted in 2018 is one of the world’s most popular in the genre. (G)I-DLE boasts 25 million followers across its social media platforms and another 9.6 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

(G)I-DLE’s next tour stop is Tuesday, Sept. 10 at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
