EXCLUSIVE: Gabriel Sloyer (Grisdela) and Matthew Modine (Stranger Things) are the latest thesps tapped as series regulars for The Better Sister, Prime Video’s thriller series based on the novel by bestselling author Alafair Burke.

Modine portrays the powerful founding partner at Adam’s (Corey Stoll) law firm, Bill Braddock, a man of appetites who can be an ally or a threat depending on the day.
As previously announced, Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks lead the cast as sisters Chloe and Nicky, with Bobby Naderi as Matt, Maxwell Acee Donovan as Ethan, and Kim Dickens as Nancy.
Hailing from Tomorrow Studios, which will co-produce with Amazon MGM Studios, The Better Sister meditates on the terrible things that drive sisters apart and ultimately bring them back together. Biel’s Chloe moves through the world with her handsome lawyer husband Adam (Stoll) and teenage son Ethan (Donovan) by her side while her estranged sister Nicky (Banks) struggles to stay clean and hustles to make ends meet. When Adam is brutally murdered, the prime suspect sends shockwaves through the family, laying bare long-buried secrets.
Olivia Milch (Ocean’s 8), who wrote the pilot, and Regina Corrado (Mayor of Kingstown) serve as executive producers and showrunners. Craig Gillespie (Pam & Tommy) will direct the series and exec produce alongside Annie Marter through Fortunate Jack Productions. In addition to Milch and Corrado, exec producers include Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, and Alissa Bachner through Tomorrow Studios (One Piece), a partnership with ITV Studios, as well as Banks, Biel and Michelle Purple. Author Burke is set as a consultant.
Recently gaining notice for his turn as Detective Diaz in Netflix’s hit limited series Griselda starring Sofia Vergara, Sloyer has previously been seen on series including The Wilds, Inventing Anna and Narcos, among many others.
Best known these days for starring as Dr. Martin “Papa” Brenner in Netflix’s Stranger Things, which is heading into its fifth and final season, Modine earlier this year completed a run as Atticus Finch in Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird on London’s West End, last year appearing in Christopher Nolan’s Best Picture winner Oppenheimer. He’ll next be seen starring alongside Robert De Niro and many more in Netflix’s political thriller series Zero Day.
Sloyer is repped by Strand Entertainment and Artists & Representatives; Modine by Untitled Entertainment, Independent Talent, and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman.
