Gabrielle Union Tweets About Being a Victim of Rape in Message of Support for Time's Up Movement

Gabrielle Union is lending her voice to Time's Up, the anti-sexual misconduct movement.

As celebrities descended onto the Golden Globes red carpet on Sunday in black garbs to show their support for victims of sexual harassment and abuse, the 45-year-old actress tweeted out that she too is participating in the #TimesUp, #WhyWeWearBlack initiative.

"This year marked the 25th anniversary of my rape," Union began. "#MeToo I know I am not alone."

The Being Mary Jane star went on to deliver a message of hope. "Together we can eradicate sexual violence, harassment and abuse. Together we can have true equality," she wrote. "Together we dismantle white supremacy and racism. Together we can center the voice of the most marginalized among us. Together we can acknowledge that the jig is up and it's BEEN time for monumental sweeping change. #TimesUpNow"

In October, while promoting her memoir, We're Going to Need More Wine, Union spoke out in defense of rape victims during a candid interview with ET's Kevin Frazier.

"Your clothing isn't going to make or break whether or not it can happen to you," she said. "Your race, religion, height, weight, hairstyle, none of those things makes a difference because at the end of the day, sexual violence isn't about sex, it's about violence and power."

Time's Up is a campaign fundraiser that is raising money for the Legal Defense Fund, a charitable organization that helps victims of sexual misconduct find legal representation.
