Gallo’s Film/TV Briefs: Ennio Morricone Adds U.S. Dates; ‘Slave’ and ‘Frozen’ Soundtracks Set; Miley Cyrus Booked for MTV EMA; Avetts’ Webcast from ‘Letterman’
— Composer Ennio Morricone will perform two concerts in the U.S. next year, conducting an ensemble of 200 musicians and singers on March 20 at Nokia Theatre L.A. and March 23 at Barclays Center Cushman and Wakefield Theatre in Brooklyn, N.Y. It will be Morricone’s first Los Angeles performance. Widely considered the most influential film music composer of the last 50 years, Morricone has scored more than 450 films including “A Fistful of Dollars,” “The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly,” “Cinema Paradiso,” “Malena” and “The Mission.” Tickets go on sale Oct. 25. Morricone made his American debut in 2007 at Radio City MusicHall.
— The soundtrack to Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Frozen,” which features eight new songs from Tony-winning songwriter Robert Lopez, a new Demi Lovato track and performances by cast members Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, will be released Nov. 25. Score by Christophe Beck is included with the songs from Lopez and his wife-collaborator Kristen Anderson-Lopez and the Lovato track “Let It Go.” A two-disc deluxe edition and a digital deluxe edition soundtrack, will feature an additional 23 and 27 tracks, respectively. Lovato’s music video for “Let It Go” will premiere on “Good Morning America” on Nov. 1.
— Columbia Records will release the soundtrack to “12 Years a Slave” featuring 16 songs selected by John Legend. With the help of co-executive album producers Mike Jackson and Thais Stiklorius, Legend recruited Alicia Keys, Gary Clark Jr., Chris Cornell featuring Joy Williams, Laura Mvula, Cody Chesnutt and Alabama Shakes to record songs of freedom. The album comes out digitally Nov. 5, physically on Nov. 19. Nine of the songs are in the film.
— The Avett Brothers are the next act to be featured on CBS Interactive’s webcast concert series “Live on Letterman.” Their performance on Oct. 30 at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York will be webcast on CBS.com and VEVO starting at 8 p.m. ET/ % p.m. PT. The Avett Brothers will be performing songs off their new Republic Records release “Magpie and the Dandelion” in addition to older songs. Fans can vote for the set’s final song at CBS.com.
— Miley Cyrus will perform at the “2013 MTV EMA” in Amsterdam, which airs Nov. 10 on MTV in the U.S. Cyrus joins previously announced performers Katy Perry and the Killers. Cyrus is nominated in four “2013 MTV EMA” categories, Best Pop, Best Female, Best Video for “Wrecking Ball” and Best U.S. Act. It will be her second “MTV EMA” performance.
— The VH1 Original Movie “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story” was VH1’s highest rated show in more than five years and VH1’s highest rated movie ever. The Oct. 21 airing pulled in 4.5 million viewers. The biopic will air again Oct. 27, followed by “Behind the Music: TLC Remastered” and “Rock Docs: Last Days of Left Eye.”
