‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 Burning Questions: Jon Snow, White Walkers and Much More

How can winter be coming to "Game of Thrones" without the Snow-man?

That’s right, we’re going there. Jon Snow’s ultimate fate cannot be making like a snow angel after getting back stabbed by his fellow watchmen on the wall.  The title of George RR Martin’s book series is "A Song of Ice and Fire" and we’re standing firm that Ice is Jon Snow and Fire is Daenerys Targaryn. Or Jon Snow is both Stark and Targaryn and is the blending of Ice and Fire. We’re flexible that way.

You can’t melt the main component of a series that has been renewed for at least two more seasons.  That’s not spoilers, it’s just common sense.

Or maybe you can. That’s the challenge of both the books and the series. You never quite know where it is all headed, especially after all the loose ends that dangled at the end of the last season.

Still, it’s not too much to ask to at least get a few of questions answered as the series winds down. And while we are sure that Snow will be back in one form or the other — let’s not count out the fact that his direwolf’s name is Ghost — there are other burning questions we’d like answered in the premiere and this season as the producers venture for the first time into territory not covered in Martin’s books.

What can be used to stop the White Walkers?

We already know that they can be stopped with dragonglass and Valyrian steel, but it would appear from the season finale that they can’t go into water. Drop off cliffs, stomp out fires, but when faced with watching Jon Snow and his group slowly row away from the decimated village, all they could do was stand at the edge of the water. And the Night’s King looks directly at Jon Snow as the wildings turned into an army of ice blue eyed zombies. He knows something, and it’s pretty clear he’s not just saying goodbye to a guy who isn’t coming back this season.

Daenerys, what have you gotten yourself into?

Dragons can be such divas.  One day they are saving your life, the next they are dropping you into the middle of the Dothraki, who apparently have plans for her that don’t include Dany being the leader of anything.  After leaving her version of a breadcrumb (a ring) for her protectors to find her, we want to know if she’s going to wait for rescue or just do it on her own.

In the trailer for this season, Drogon’s shadow passes over the encampment. Will we see the Mother of Dragons toss out some hellfire to those who want to keep her down?

Can Sansa and Theon, the poster children for bad decisions, make a power couple?

Sansa has grown a lot from a na?ve, pretty little lump to the more self-sufficient Stark. Theon has lost a lot of body parts and mental stability in his growth as a human. This could be the year the two, who are on the run from sadistic Ramsey Bolton , finally get some common sense and power their way into a better life.

Will Cersei Lannister’s shame turn into someone else’s pain?

The devious Cersei got her comeuppance when she had to walk naked through the streets. Don’t expect her to be contrite. Like a willful child, she declares she’s not going to let this slight slide. When told she needs to step aside or there will be violence, she says, "I choose violence."  Now, the question remains just who will be on the receiving end of her wrath, and that might include her brother/lover Jamie, who allowed their daughter to be killed by a vengeful Ellaria.

What’s up with creepy blind Arya?

There are none so blind as those who will not see.  Too bad Arya didn’t know that before she crossed  Jaqen H’ghar and the Faceless Men in the House of Black and White not once, but twice.  So if she refuses to see that she can’t defy the rules, then she has the gift of sight taken from her so she can concentrate.  This, he warns, is a girl’s last chance..

Arya’s been a favorite character in both the books and the series, but since landing in Braavos we’ve been stumped. It’s easier to cipher common core math than figuring out what’s happening with the faceless men and the dealers of death. Maybe this season the producers can allow us a bit of insight into the Hall of Faces. And then perhaps we’ll all see the light.

What’s with Bran standing?

Of course, when your little kid actor pops up to almost six feet, you can’t exactly expect Hodor to be hauling his backside around the countryside.  Bran was a no-show last season, and the season before the crippled Stark heir was told he would never walk again, but he could fly.  What does that really mean?  We’ve seen Season 6 promo pictures with Bran towering next to his Three-Eyed Raven mentor and sitting on a horse. We need to know if these are mere flights of fancy, or have a more earthbound answer.

Where in the world is Rickon?

We need to know if the littlest Stark-ster is still among us, or has gone the way of Chuck Cunningham ("Happy Days"),  Judy ("Family Matters") and Dr. Erica Hahn ("Grey’s Anatomy") in disappearing without an explanation. When last we saw sweet little Rick, he was on his way with Osha to be sheltered by a loyal Stark ally. Did he make it? Is he six feet tall now like brother Bran? Do we care? YES.

Gendry, will you row your boat ashore?

Row, row, row your boat, Gendry. Life might be a dream, but at some point it becomes a nightmare for this sacrificial man.  He was seduced and leached by the torrid Red Woman and was to be killed. But Davos saved him to row away in his little boat and perhaps one day capture the throne as his birthright. But at some point, the only Baratheon heir left –  albeit a bastard – has to pop back in, right?

Wait, what does any of this mean?
