Now we’re getting somewhere. Ahead of its January 2025 premiere, CBS’ eagerly anticipated new soap The Gates — which sounds like it’s gonna be the hottest thing since Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots — has issued casting calls for a whole slew of key roles, TV Insider reports.

Previously Soaps.com put together a list of actors that we were hoping would nab parts on estimable EP/headwriter Michele Val Jean’s drama about the denizens of a luxe gated community. Finally, we can match the stars with the roles for which they’d be perfect.

Retired Senator and civil-rights activist Patrick has the name Peter Parros written all over it. The alum of As the World Turns, One Life to Live and The Haves and the Have Nots has just the gravitas and depth to play a seemingly upright character whose closet has a big ol’ skeleton in it. And as his wife, Betty? Who better than the much-missed Victoria Rowell (ex-Drucilla, The Young and the Restless).

Thirtysomething Elizabeth is a paralegal who managed to go from “the other woman” with married boss Joseph to his future bride. Sounds like a perfect part for Mishael Morgan (ex-Hilary/Amanda, The Young and the Restless), no? And we wouldn’t be surprised a bit if Joseph turned out to already have been cast with Ted King (Jack, The Bold and the Beautiful). Here’s why.

Congressman Marcus, who sounds like he could be Patrick’s grandson, dreams of becoming the first Black gay POTUS and has the support of husband Daniel in achieving that goal. Gavin Houston, last seen in soapdom as Zeke on General Hospital,  would make a terrific Marcus. As for reporter-turned-stay-at-home dad Daniel, how about Kendrick Sampson, late of Insecure?

Plastic surgeon Sam has a perfect life and a perfect wife… at least since they got past a hiccup after which he laid the past to rest… or so he thinks. Perhaps this could be the character to bring the much-missed Darnell Williams (Jesse, All My Children) back to daytime?

Stacy, who sounds like she could be Sam’s missus, is a fancypants realtor who hasn’t had sex with her better half in years. Which doesn’t mean that she hasn’t been having sex, mind you. Tell us that Tika Sumpter, previously Layla on One Life to Live and conniving call girl Candace on The Haves and the Have Nots, wouldn’t slay this role!

Courtney is said to be a little unhinged since her husband’s death — and so far, the only person who’s noticed is Diane, who is hell-bent on righting a wrong. No doubt Karla Mosley (ex-Maya, The Bold and the Beautiful) could make Courtney hella compelling, and Barrett Doss (ex-Vic, Station 19), Diane.

Patrick and Betty’s granddaughter Jillian is an attorney who, despite being lovely, is insecure about her looks around her gorgeous mother and sister. If former Disney kid China Anne McClain books the gig, she’d sure bring to the role the singing chops that Jillian is said to have. Maybe Rome Flynn (ex-Zende, The Bold and the Beautiful) could play the lawyer’s policeman husband, David?

Luis is an uber-hot personal trainer who we have a feeling is carrying on with Stacy. Rising star and card-carrying hottie Anthony Ramos (In the Heights) has not only the body but the charisma to play the stud muffin.

One hitch about casting: All of the contract roles must go to Atlanta residents. So if an actor doesn’t live there already, they’d have to… move? Anyway, The Gates is set to start taping in November. Check out the below photo gallery of soaps’ most iconic characters of all time.
