Gene Simmons backs up his statement that women should wear potato sacks

Kiss musician Gene Simmons visited Today With Kathie Lee and Hoda and expanded on controversial comments that he gave to the New York Post, in which he said that women could not have both a career and kids. He also said, “Women have a choice, they can dress in potato sacks, [but] as soon as they pretty themselves up with lipstick, lift and separate them and point them in our general direction, they’re gonna get a response. Guys are jackasses. We will buy them mansions and houses … all because of sex.”

On Today Simmons expounded on his comments in an interview with Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford, adding, “I am not saying life is fair.”

Unaware of the irony that a man who wears garish costumes for attention should not tell women how they should dress, Simmons explained that he thinks women’s power comes from their sex appeal. He said, “I’m pointing out your looks and how you dress and present yourself is an outreach and an extension of the power you have.”

The musician known for performing such deep songs as “Lick It Up,” “Love Gun,” and “Christine Sixteen” later applauded women coming forward to out sexual harassers and said, “Women finally stood up on their two hind legs and said you only get the respect you demand.”
