‘General Hospital’ Brings Back Chris Van Etten As Co-Head Writer With Elizabeth Korte
Nearly three months after General Hospital shook up its writers room and said goodbye to co-head writer Patrick Mulcahey, the sudser has a new — well, kind of new — team in place.
Chris Van Etten is returning to serve as co-head writer with Elizabeth Korte, Deadline has confirmed. At the same time, GH script and breakdown Writer Cathy LePard has been upped to associate head writer.

Van Etten previously served as co-head writer with Dan O’Connor until they were replaced in January with Mulcahey and Korte. The daytime sudser had just taken the top prize at the 50th Annual Daytime Emmys when the changes were revealed.
Van Etten and Korte are considered long-time respected members of the GH family.
“No one knows General Hospital and its history more than Elizabeth and Chris. Cathy joined the show in 2023, and her talent and love for the genre has been a tremendous asset to this team,” said EP Frank Valentini in a statement to Soap Opera Digest, which first reported the news. “We look forward to this dynamic writing combination continuing the legacy of the show and giving our fans much to look forward to.”
The head writing team’s first episode airs Aug. 8.
Van Etten’s previous credit includes a stint on One Life To Live before he joined GH in 2012. Korte joined in 1994.
