General Hospital Comings and Goings: Kelly Monaco Out As Sam
On General Hospital, Lindsay Hartley stepped in as Sam McCall last week. However, new details show that Kelly Monaco is out as Sam.
Will Sam Be Recast?
Soap Opera Network reported that sources confirmed that Monaco is no longer portraying Sam at the ABC soap. SON reported that the network chose to terminate the character entirely. It sounds like the information “blindsided” Monaco, who began portraying Sam in 2003.
Monaco has been with the GH franchise for her career in daytime. From 2000 to 2003, she portrayed Livvie Locke in the GH spinoff Port Charles. She portrayed Livvie until the show was canceled, then moved on to Sam on GH.
Throughout her over two-decade career in daytime, Monaco has earned two Daytime Emmy nominations. One for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2003 for portraying Livvie and the second for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her work as Sam in 2006.
In addition to her work in daytime, Monaco competed in the first season of the primetime hit Dancing with the Stars in 2005. Fans will remember that Monaco won the first-ever Mirror Ball trophy. Then, in 2012, she returned for the All-Stars season, where she came in third place and couldn’t repeat her Mirror Ball win. She also danced the rumba with Terrell Owens in 2017 for DWTS’s 25th anniversary.
