General Hospital Comings & Goings: Santa Barbara’s Lane Davies Returns
Port Charles is going to look a little bit like Santa Barbara in the near future. General Hospital is adding Lane Davies to the show’s cast. He’ll play Fergus Byrne, an attorney who crosses paths with Alexis, played by Nancy Lee Grahn.
Legal Aid
TV Insider first reported the news of Davies coming back to GH. The actor is best known to soap fans for his turn as acerbic Mason Capwell on the NBC soap Santa Barbara, created by Jerry and the late Bridget Dobson, which ran from 1984-93. There, he was paired with Grahn’s Julia Wainwright. (Read what Grahn had to say about that dynamic here.)
Fans are hoping that Alexis gets her law license back. Perhaps Davies’ Fergus will play into that developing tale? This isn’t the first time Davies has appeared on GH opposite Grahn. He played Dr. Cameron Lewis, father of Xander Smith (Chad Brannon), on the ABC soap from 2002 to 2004.
Davies’ other soap roles include Evan Whyland on Days of our Lives. (At one point, it was believed that Evan was the father of Maggie’s daughter Sarah until the writers reversed that and wrote that Dr. Neil Curtis was her birth dad.) In 1992, Davies stepped in to play Ridge on Bold and the Beautiful while Ronn Moss (Ridge’s then portrayer) was shooting the mini-series The Baron in Europe.
Watch for Davies to make his return to GH during the week of May 22.
The actor’s comeback to soaps coincides with the 40th anniversary of Santa Barbara. Davies revealed on Facebook that something special is being planned to honor the beloved program’s anniversary. “A little heads up- we are planning a huge, in person fundraiser in CA around the end of July, for SB 40th,” the actor posted on social media. “It is a fundraiser, and all proceeds will be donated to two charities. Start saving and I will keep you posted on this event as more information is available.”
