General Hospital’s John J. York Teases Mac’s June 19 Return
After being diagnosed with two types of cancers, John J. York took a hiatus from General Hospital last year to undergo treatment. But Mac is back on June 19, 2024, and here’s what we know about his big return.
Like He Never Left
During an interview with Good Morning America, York sat down with Zohreen Shah, where he touched on what it was like to return to Port Charles. “Everybody has been very welcoming, very supportive,” he said. York even donned a ‘Mac is Back’ shirt when he returned to the GH set in early May and reunited with his on-screen wife and son, Kristina Wagner and Josh Kelly.
When asked what he missed the most while he was gone from GH, York said, “I just felt so attached that I didn’t feel like I missed anything. I just had a little break. A little vacation, I guess.”
Mac Comes Home
As for where Mac has been, Felicia (Kristina Wagner) has often mentioned that he’s been away on business in Australia. GMA shared a clip of the moment Mac returns on-screen during the June 19 episode.
As Georgie (Lily Fisher) opens the door, she shouts, “Mom! Look!” Maxie (Kirsten Storms) and Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) are happily surprised to find Mac standing in the doorway. He hugs his granddaughter before Maxie runs over to hug her stepfather.
Another clip teased Mac holding Bailey Lou, saying, “What’s a grandfather’s purpose if not to spoil his grandchildren?”
In real life, GMA revealed that York’s grandson, along with his son-in-law, both shaved their heads in solidarity for York’s treatment.
