Three-time Daytime Emmy award winner Rick Hearst is returning to the role for which he twice grabbed gold — as General Hospital‘s Ric Lansing.

Hearst made his daytime-TV debut in 1989 on Days of Our Lives, then went on to play Guiding Light‘s Alan-Michael Spaulding for a half-dozen years (claiming his first Daytime Emmy win) and also appear on The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful.

In 2002, Hearst made his debut as GH‘s Ric aka Sonny’s half-brother by a shared mother, Adela. He exited the show in 2009, and previously returned to the role from 2014-16.

Ric is also the father of Alexis Davis’ (Nancy Lee Grahn) daughter Molly (Kristen Vaganos), which appears to play into the crux of the character’s return to Port Charles, NY.

As Hearst told TV Insider, GH casting director Mark Teschner tracked him down to invite him back, saying that the storyline would in the vein of, “Daddy’s home and here to take care of his daughter and anything that entails.”

Hearst — who will debut during the week of Aug. 19 — says he caught up on GH some ahead of his return, “and I see that there’s a situation where Kristina (Kate Mansi) is being a surrogate for Molly. And while I don’t know what that turns into, I have a feeling there’s going to be some friction by virtue of the fact that one daughter [Kristina] is parented by Alexis and Sonny, and the other daughter is parented by Alexis and Ric. That alone is enough to create a mad amount of drama of who’s going to side with who.”

Heart’s post-GH TV credits included VH1’s Daytime Divas and episodes of The Vampire Diaries, The CW’s Dynasty reboot and Ambitions.

GH fans, are you excited to see Ric back in Port Charles?
