George Miller Confirms Black and White Cut of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is getting a special cut. In fact, it’s already been made.
George Miller, who directed the film and created the entire Mad Max franchise, revealed he’s cut the film entirely in black and white.
In an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Miller confirmed the alternate cut is now complete.
“We’ve done it already,” the director said. “It’s the last thing I did on this film. I call it tinted black and chrome.”
It’s not the first time Miller’s made a black and white cut of a Mad Max movie. He did the same for 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, which he titled Mad Max: Fury Road—The Black and Chrome Edition.
It was a critical hit. The visual language of his films translate well to the monochrome aesthetic, with many saying the lack of color even serves to highlight the boldness of Miller’s vision.

There’s no word on when it will release, but if it’s anything like the last one, expect it roughly one year from now. That’ll give Miller enough time to work out why he likes black and white cuts so much.
“I’m still trying to demystify why the black and white, for me, has something more elemental to it.” Miller continued.. “I still can’t quite put my finger on it. It’s not because they look like old black-and-white movies. If we took a picture of ourselves right now, it might be a little more dramatic if it was black and white.”
