Geraldo apologizes after backing out of possible Senate run: 'Our dreams got ahead of our plan'
Geraldo Rivera made his usual appearance Thursday on Hannity, where he addressed his short-lived plans to run for the U.S. Senate. On Wednesday, Rivera posted a tweet announcing that he was pondering running for the seat that will be left vacant by retiring Republican Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio, who will not be seeking reelection in 2022.

Rivera, who regularly butts heads with Sean Hannity and Fox News contributor Dan Bongino for his moderate stances on things like immigration, said he would have run as a moderate Republican. But his political ambitions didn’t last long as he posted another tweet less than 24 hours after the first one, saying that the run is not going to happen.
After a 36-hour pondering whirlwind I’ve decided not to seek public office. Erica and I deeply appreciate the good wishes of those cheering the idea.

Rivera explained that he and his wife, Erica, had gotten ahead of themselves when he went public with the idea, and apologized for doing so.
“Erica and I were thinking about it. Our dreams got ahead of our plan. You know, I regret that we went public with this before we had formulated an idea, ya know, anything more than an idea. I apologize for it,” Rivera said. “I am not running for the Senate seat in the great state of Ohio. I thought I could do good as a Republican moderate, but, ya know, it is a daunting task and I’ll leave it to a younger man, Sean.”
Hannity airs weeknights at 9 p.m. on Fox News Channel.
