Getting Ready for Michael Kors With Mindy Kaling

“I love the Michael Kors show. We share the same initials,” said Mindy Kaling, from the car en route to the designer’s spring 2025 show. The actress and producer, who has attended the designer’s shows a few times now, was making her last stop of NYFW at the Kors show before immediately catching a flight home to see her kids. For Michael Kors, she got to take advantage of the temperate New York weather and wear one of the designer’s gray wool coats.

“I’ve been working for 20 years and I’ve gone to a lot of fashion things, but I’ve never worn outerwear as a dress. So it’s so exciting to wear this timeless, beautiful tweed coat. It feels like a really kind of luxurious staple for Michael Kors,” she said. “But I love that it’s a little sexy because I’m wearing it with nothing underneath, which is kind of fun.”

In addition to sharing initials, Kaling is a fan of “the kind of women that he’s drawn to and wants to include in these events.”

“Fashion can sometimes have the reputation of not necessarily being so inclusive of people of different images and you see these incredible performers and political women, just strong American women of every age, which I think is really exciting for someone like me,” Kaling said. “They all look incredibly glamorous in their Michael Kors work wear. He’s so good at work wear. And for someone like me who has two full-time jobs, it’s just amazing to get fashion ideas from looking at the models and looking at everyone else who’s sitting front row.”

Kaling was flying out immediately after, but the night prior she got to have a New York night out after the Tory Burch show in Williamsburg.

“After we finished the show, we were in Brooklyn and I was like, ‘I am going to get a slice.’ And we just went to the place that we just Googled, we were like, ‘ooh, let’s get a giant cheese pizza from here,” she said. “And I of course doused it in crushed red pepper.”
