Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik break up: A timeline of their romance
Model Gigi Hadid and One Direction member-turned-solo-artist Zayn Malik had two years together — a considerable length of time for people in their 20s, and especially impressive for a Hollywood romance. Their breakup is the perfect time to look back at notable moments in their relationship.
November 2015: Us Weekly reports that the two are casually dating and quotes a source saying that the British boy bander is already “chuffed,” or very pleased in Brit speak. The magazine publishes photographs of the pair supposedly partying together after the American Music Awards. She is fresh off of a split with Joe Jonas (remember G.I. Joe?). Zayn had ended his engagement to Little Mix star Perrie Edwards just three months earlier.
December 2015-January 2016: Gigi pops up in Zayn’s Instagram feed by December. By January, she has confirmed their couple status without saying anything at all. They’re officially Instagram official.

Also, around this time, Gigi co-stars in Zayn’s music video for “Pillowtalk.”
April 2016: The self-proclaimed Zee and Gee are featured in Vogue magazine — that’s how big they are.

May 2, 2016: Gigi and Zayn make their first red carpet appearance as a couple at the star-studded Met Gala. Both wear futuristic garb to fit the theme, “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.”
June 2016: The two break up, then quickly reunite, with E! reporting that they had actually called it quits “multiple times,” because they had problems communicating.
Later in the month, Gigi publicly supports Zayn after he cancels a performance because of his anxiety issues. The breakup talk is over … for now.

January 2017: Gigi explains the couple’s favorite date night, and it’s clear that they’re pretty serious by just how normal it sounds. “When I’m in L.A. I mostly stay in because it’s my time off and I like being with my boyfriend and doing art and cooking,” she tells British Vogue. “We like late night movies, and we order from this amazing place that does lattes and gingerbread cookies. I need coffee to stay up.”
July 2017: Gigi and Zayn cover Vogue. In the interview, they talk about how they like to shop each other’s closets.
