Unfortunately, there are no plans for a Gilmore Girls movie (yet)

Saturday night’s Gilmore Girls reunion at the ATX Festival in Austin, Texas, had everything fans of the beloved series could want… except confirmation that a long-discussed movie project is being developed.

“There’s nothing in the works at the moment,” creator Amy Sherman-Palladino said during the Entertainment Weekly-sponsored event. Which isn’t to say something won’t happen in the future.

“Here’s the good thing: Nobody here hates each other. It would have to be the right everything — the right format, the right timing… it would have to be honored in a certain way,” Sherman-Palladino said. “And if it ever came around, we would all jump in and do it. And if it ever happened, I promise you I’d do it correctly.”

Rumors that there could be a Gilmore Girls movie hit a fever pitch back in May when co-star Scott Patterson told the Gilmore Girls podcast that there were “talks” of a film project.

“I can’t really go into any details, but there is some activity. I’m hopeful, and I’m in,” Patterson said. “I think it would be a big event, and I think it would be a great fan celebration.”

On Saturday night, Patterson was slightly apologetic about his enthusiasm (“It springs more from hopefulness”), but said he felt everyone — fans and cast alike — was due for a Gilmore Girls movie.

“It’s kinda time, don’t you think?”
