Ginuwine doesn't recall Justin Timberlake's 'fo shiz' incident from Britney Spears' memoir
"I probably would've looked at him like, 'Why are you acting like that?'"
Ginuwine has no memory of his supposed encounter with Justin Timberlake documented in Britney Spears' memoir.
But, yes, the viral anecdote has set his phone abuzz. "People were calling about that," the "Pony" singer, who was recently unveiled as Husky in The Masked Singer, told PEOPLE. "But I can tell you I don't remember that happening. If Justin would've did something like that, I probably would've looked at him like, 'Why are you acting like that?'"
"If he did that, that would be something that I would remember," he added. "That would've definitely stuck out. So nah, I don't remember that happening."
In Spears' long-awaited memoir The Woman In Me, which sold a whopping 1.1 million copies in its first week across print, audiobooks, and e-books following its Oct. 24 debut, the pop star recounts an encounter between ex Timberlake, whom she dated between 1999 and 2002, and Ginuwine while in New York.
"His band NSYNC was what people back then called 'so pimp,'" Spears writes. "They were white boys, but they loved hip-hop. To me, that's what separated them from the Backstreet Boys — who seemed very consciously to position themselves as a white group. NSYNC hung out with Black artists."
"One day, J and I were in New York, going to parts of town I had never been to before," she continues. "Walking our way was a guy with a huge, blinged-out medallion — he was flanked by two giant security guards. J got all excited and said so loud, 'Oh yeah, fo' shiz, fo' shiz. Ginuwine, what's up, my homie?'"
After Ginuwine walked away, Spears recounted her longtime assistant Felicia Culotta mocking Timberlake. "J wasn't even embarrassed. He just took it and looked at her like, 'Okay, f--- you,'" she writes.
Oscar-nominated actress Michelle Williams, who narrates the audio version of the memoir, quickly went viral for her delivery of the excerpt.
