Glen Powell Details Failed Marvel Audition to Play Captain America
Glen Powell is arguably Hollywood’s hottest property, but his early-to-mid twenties are full of failed auditions.
The Top Gun: Maverick actor, who headlines Twisters later this year, detailed his long list of near misses.
“I can joke about it now,” he told GQ of an audition to play Han Solo in Disney’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, “[but] I blew that final audition.” The role went to Alden Ehrenreich.
He also, according to the interview, “screwed up” his audition to play Captain America. That role eventually went to Chris Evans.
But there’s a surprise experience that sticks with Powell: his audition for 2011 sci-fi/western Cowboys & Aliens. “I auditioned for Cowboys & Aliens, to play Harrison Ford’s son,” he says. Powell studied actor Ben Foster’s performance in 3:10 to Yuma the night before, revealing “I was like, I’ve gotta be Ben Foster. Then I get to the audition the next day and I look at the sign-in sheet. The guy before me is Ben Foster.”
Neither Powell nor Foster landed the role - it went to Paul Dano.
