Glen Powell Says ‘Top Gun 3’ Is Moving Quickly: ‘I Have a Date’
Glen Powell is gearing up to return to the skies for another “Top Gun” film.

Powell and “Twisters” co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones were asked if it was more likely to get a “Normal People” continuation or third “Top Gun” film first, prompting Powell to offer a minor update on his Tom Cruise-led sequel.
“I mean, I have a date,” he said, before being asked if he could share more details.
“Absolutely not,” Powell said.
Powell and “Top Gun” co-star Tom Cruise have been vocal about wanting to work together again. While on the “Today” show, Powell teased that a third “Top Gun” would be “happening at some point.”
“Tom and I didn’t get to it at the ‘Twisters’ premiere,” Powell said, citing Cruise’s surprise appearance on the red carpet.
Powell previously addressed the topic of a potential “Top Gun 3” in a 2022 interview with IndieWire’s Kate Erbland, in which he said that Cruise would only return to the franchise if he found the perfect story that met his prerequisite level of spectacle.
“So, is there going to be a ‘Top Gun 3’? If we can figure out more crazy things to do with airplanes or a story that it is compelling and emotional and adventurous and romantic and all those things like, I am sure Tom would be down,” Powell said. “But that’s above my pay grade. Maybe you can pitch it to him when you talk to him!”
“Top Gun: Maverick” was directed by Joseph Kosinski and released in 2022.
During the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast in the below video, Powell teased that he would be open to also starring in a musical, specifically “Singing in the Rain” which he deemed one of his favorite films.
“Gene Kelly was a big hero of mine, so if I were to do a musical, that’d probably be the one,” Powell said. He previously announced that he was working with Ryan Murphy on a Broadway show, in addition to leading Edgar Wright’s “The Running Man” remake.
