Glenn Close Deserves an Oscar for Her Reaction to Melissa McCarthy's Outfit on the Red Carpet

Glenn Close loves Melissa McCarthy’s look on the 2019 Oscars red carpet — and she’s not afraid to show it.

The Best Actress nominees were caught in a funny moment on the carpet when McCarthy was on a platform being interviewed by Billy Porter for ABC. And when Close got a good look at McCarthy’s black and white pantsuit ensemble, she showed her appreciation with a flurry of facial expressions.

Close opened her eyes wide before turning her head and gave her an approving side-eye and finally looked up and closed her eyes in pure joy, basking in the glory of McCarthy’s presence.

Both are nominated in the same category tonight, with McCarthy earning her first Best Actress nod for Can You Ever Forgive Me? while Close is a veteran in the category. She’s nominated for the fourth time for her role in The Wife.

The two have been getting closer during awards season, and Close even posted a picture of McCarthy on her Instagram at the BAFTAs earlier this month, where they were both nominated.

“Jonathan Pryce, my husband in THE WIFE and Melissa McCarthy, one of my category sisters at the BAFTAS 2019,” Close captioned the photo.

McCarthy took part in PEOPLE’s Oscar portfolio this year, where she revealed that one of her favorite moments in film belongs to Close.

“One of my favorite moments in the world is Glenn Close in Dangerous Liaisons when she’s shamed at the end and people turn on her,” McCarthy said, referring to the 1989 drama also starring John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer. “And you watch her in the movie completely flush red. There’s no CGI. It’s just her feeling it and her body reacting, and I literally remember being like, did everyone freak out? When that happened, and they got it on film, they must have just lost their minds. It still gives me chills to think about.”

The 91st Academy Awards are broadcasting live from Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT on ABC.
