Godzilla x Kong Sequel Gets New Director

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire's director teased another sequel in his MonsterVerse, but now that follow-up has parted ways with Adam Wingard and will, instead, be directed by Grant Sputore.

Sputore's first feature, I Am Mother, starring Rose Byrne, Luke Hawker and Hilary Swank, hit Netflix in 2019. Now, it has been revealed that his sophomore effort will be a big-budget MonsterVerse epic featuring the beloved Titans that have previously scored a combined total of $2.5 billion in box office dollars.

The sequel will be a continuation of the world already established by Wingard in Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which is said to feature "an assortment of other Titans", as per The Hollywood Reporter.

Not only are they switching up the director, but the screenwriter, as Dave Callaham — whose previous works include Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Wonder Woman 1984 and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings — steps in to pen the next chapter.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire hit theaters in March and landed itself $567.6 million at the worldwide box office from its rumored $135 million budget.

Fans are still turning up to see Godzilla and Kong face-off, but will that money still translate now a new director is in town? Only time will tell.
