Guy Gansert is taking accountability after a former protective order filed by his ex-wife came to light amid his time on The Golden Bachelorette. In a Thursday, October 10, Instagram post, Guy addressed the 2021 restraining order filing.

“I would like to respond to an article about a personal matter from 2021,” Guy, 66, wrote. “This was an unfortunate situation that occurred during an incredibly stressful time for me and my former spouse and was ultimately resolved when she voluntary [sic] dismissed her request for a protective order. Together we crafted a resolution that was agreeable to both parties. My ex-wife and I recently asked the court to seal her application for the protective order as we had hoped to maintain privacy for our family.”

He then acknowledged that his new life as a public figure comes with “responsibility,” which is why he decided to address the situation.

“My ex-wife and I were married for 34 years and in that time had four children who we raised together and deeply love,” Guy continued. “They are my greatest accomplishment. My divorce was extremely difficult for me and led me to a very low point in my life and as a result I acted in a way that does not represent who I am. The past few years have caused me to conduct a deep personal evaluation, and I will always continue to work to improve myself.”

He concluded his message by thanking Bachelor Nation and his family for their “exceptional support during the most difficult times of my life.”

On Wednesday, October 9, The Sun reported that Guy’s ex filed for a “protection order against domestic violence” against him in October 2021. She accused him of “disparaging” her and her friend outside the gym. “He pointed his finger like a gun then ‘shot’ at me,” Guy’s ex claimed. “He motioned like he was going to shoot me with his hand shaped like a pistol.”

The ex referred to Guy as “extremely unstable” and alleged that he had been sending her “stacks of text messages” that began with him “trying to reconcile,” but “flipped to anger” quickly. In the end, Guy’s ex decided to dismiss her application for a protective order and the two reached a “no contact agreement,” according to The Sun.

On September 30, Guy and his ex jointly filed to seal the records from the initial filing. “Based on my participation in this show and the audience viewership, I have a grave and ever-increasing concern that the substance of the underlying case may be publicly exposed and thus create unnecessary exposure, harassment, embarrassment, and potentially personal harm to myself … my children and grandchild, and extended family,” the emergency room doctor explained in the emergency motion, per The Sun.

However, their motion was denied because there was no “any compelling legal authority” to grant it.

Guy is one of seven men left hoping to end up with Joan Vassons on The Golden Bachelorette. The show airs on ABC Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
