It turns out age doesn’t necessarily equal maturity. Two of the senior citizens on this season of The Golden Bachelorette were exposed for having disturbing legal issues with women — which apparently went undetected during the show’s supposedly exhaustive background checks.

“We take the safety of our contestants very seriously and make every effort to conduct thorough diligence,” a Bachelor Nation source recently insisted to the Hollywood Reporter.

And while Golden Bachelor star Gerry Turner has confirmed “the vetting process is ridiculously thorough,” this is far from the first time the franchise has cast contestants who were hiding troubling pasts. “In the end, the producers — and Joan [Vassos] — were tricked by their lies,” says a source. “It’s heartbreaking for her.”

Guy Gansert

Shortly after their divorce following 34 years of marriage in 2021, the Reno, Nevada, ER doctor’s ex-wife, Heidi, applied for a protection order against domestic violence, alleging that he threatened her, sent “a stack” of texts, and trespassed on her property. She also claimed that Guy, 66, took multiple pills, “doesn’t sleep and is extremely unstable.”

Heidi withdrew the request three weeks later, and the exes attempted to have the paperwork sealed before the show’s premiere.

“My divorce was extremely difficult for me and led me to a very low point in my life,” Guy, who is rumored to make it to Joan’s top three, explained on Instagram. “As a result I acted in a way that does not represent who I am.”

Who Do You Want to See as the Next Golden Bachelor?

Gil Ramirez

“He made repeated unwanted contact with me, family members and friends,” a woman who dated the Mission Viejo, California, educator, 60, alleged in a domestic restraining order request accusing him of emotional harassment in June. The filing was reportedly made days before filming began, after his Golden Bachelorette background check.

Gil hasn’t commented on the order, which was dropped in July due to “lack of prosecution.” Still, the widower’s appearances on the show were edited down, though he did get episode 3’s group date rose!
