The Good Doctor Vet Marries the Daytime Emmy Winner Who Was His Dear Evan Hansen Predecessor

Ah, now this is just what The Good Doctor ordered. Five months after being killed off of the much-missed ABC drama as Asher Wolke, Noah Galvin has tied the knot with Ben Platt, who won a 2017 Tony for his work as the title character in Dear Evan Hansen. Ironically, he would be succeeded in the role by his future husband. That isn’t how they met, however.

Flash back to the fall of 2014, and Galvin asked Platt to play his offbeat roommate in a web series that he was creating. The odd duck “loved cacti and cried over his distant cousin,” Platt recalled for Vogue. “Noah was medium into it.”

The twosome started dating in 2020 and got engaged two years later over what Galvin told the magazine was a schmancy dinner “a la The Bachelorette.” Galvin and Platt threw their wedding over Labor Day weekend. “We were overwhelmed with love, sweaty and sobbing most of the time,” Platt said. “We took our coats off halfway through — we were emotionally overheated.”

Oh, and if you were wondering how Platt managed to win a Daytime Emmy without doing a soap opera, here’s your answer: He scored the statuette in 2018 in the category of Outstanding Musical Performance in a Daytime Program (for the Dear Evan Hansen cast’s rendition of “You Will Be Found” on The Today Show).
