Good food! Best new restaurants for a big weekend brunch in Boca Raton, Delray Beach
We interrupt your January resolutions to bring you an oversized serving of food-and-drink decadence, perfect for (hopefully) crisp February weekends: big, new brunches to explore.
Three new south county restaurants are serving drive-worthy brunches to put on your weekend radar. They range from an Italian brunch by a Michelin-starred chef to an American comfort-food brunch to a Sunday brunch that offers “endless tapas”.
Let’s start with an Amalfi Limone Spritz.
Fiolina’s Italian brunch
The weekend Italian brunch at the 2-month-old Fiolina Pasta House in Boca Raton is served with a “Dolce Vita” spirit, starting with a spritz tower ($38) that features a trio of spritzes, including that Amalfi Limone. The lineup of brunch cocktails also includes a variety of mimosas ($10) and Bloody Marys ($18).
But the real treat is in what’s to eat. Fiolina’s kitchen is in stellar hands. Chef-founder Fabio Trabocchi is a Michelin-starred, James Beard Award-winning chef with nationally acclaimed restaurants in Washington D.C., Virginia and Miami (Fiola).
Fiolina’s weekend brunch specialties include Neapolitan-style Eggs in Purgatory with peperonata, heirloom tomato and basil ($18), skillet sausage and rosemary over polenta with an organic egg ($22), Caprese frittata ($16) and tiramisu toast with mascarpone, cocoa and espresso crema ($18).
And, bonus: The restaurant’s all-day menu is also available during weekend brunch. That means you can order a variety of hand-made cheese and cured meats from Fiolina’s mozzarella bar, antipasti, house-made pasta tossed with regional toppings and sauces (such as a Roman bucatini alla carbonara with guanciale, pecorino and black pepper ($32) and other dishes.
Brunch hours: Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reservations are suggested and can be made by calling 561-473-9400 or via FiolinaPasta.com.
Fiolina Pasta House is at 5377 Town Center Rd., #300, across from Town Center in Boca Raton.
‘Endless tapas’ for brunch at The Wine Room
This popular Delray Beach restaurant and wine bar recently rolled out quite a Sunday brunch. It offers not only a lineup of bottomless mimosas ($20), it offers “endless tapas” ($49).
The tapas option allows you to order as many items from the a la carte menu as you’d like (two at a time). The fine print: Everyone at your table must order the “endless” option, your dining time cannot exceed 90 minutes and you’re not permitted to take home your leftovers.
On The Wine Room’s a la carte menu, chef Blake Malatesta offers plenty of tempting bites ($5 to $15 each), including mini doughnuts, guava turnovers, breakfast tacos, grass-fed beef sliders, eggs Benedict, empanadas, pancakes, chicken and waffles, veggie frittata and shrimp and grits.
Larger brunch platters include lump crab gnocchi, steak and eggs and a double brunch smashburger with brisket burnt ends, hot bacon jam, cheese and a fried egg, served with truffle fries.
Brunch hours: Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For reservations, call 561-243-9463 or visit TheWineRoomOnline.com.
The Wine Room Kitchen and Bar is at 411 E. Atlantic Ave., Suite C, in downtown Delray Beach.
American Social’s ‘Boozy Brunch’
As one might expect, the brunch menu at one of the newest “boozy” brunches in south county begins with the booze. As some might not expect, the brunch cocktails ($4 to $13.50) are not offered in “bottomless” mode.
At the 8-month-old American Social pub in Boca, the mimosas, Bloodys, spritzes and such headline a varied, fairly extensive menu of brunch and lunch dishes that ought to satisfy most appetites. Shareable bites ($7.50 to $33) include doughnut holes, deviled eggs, wings and oysters.
Brunch plates ($14 to $28) include Fruity Pebbles chicken and waffles with maple-mascarpone and habanero-strawberry jam, sirloin steak and eggs with chimichurri and potato cakes and a dish called Brunch in the Keys (pink shrimp cake with green goddess dressing, poached egg, hollandaise sauce and cilantro).
Lunch plates ($13 to $23.25) include burgers, sandwiches, salads and bowls.
Brunch hours: Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. For reservations, call 561-486-5434 or visit AmericanSocialBar.com.
American Social is at 351 W. Plaza Real at Mizner Park in Boca Raton.
