THE GOONIES Will Return to Movie Theaters in September
Hey, you guysssss! The Goonies, a beloved 1985 adventure comedy film following a bunch of rejects on a treasure-hunting adventure, is returning to movie theaters to celebrate Warner Bros. 100th anniversary. According to ComicBook.com, the film will be in select Regal theaters and AMC cinemas starting on September 1. It will later hit Cinemark theaters on September 10.
Right now, it is not clear exactly how long The Goonies will stick around at the movies. So you might want to move fast if you really wanna see it. But the return of The Goonies to movie theaters will be for a limited time only. For some fans, this might be the first time they will get to witness Mikey and his crew search for the long-lost treasure of One-Eyed Willy on the big screen. I certainly grew up watching this film on TV. However, as a late ’80s baby and ’90s kid, I haven’t seen The Goonies in a theater. A new generation of fans can also check it out and fall in love with this quirky and loveable group.
Honestly, it’s nice to see this happening just a few years after a majority of The Goonies cast reunited via Zoom in 2020. Actors like Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Ke Huy Quan, Corey Feldman, and more raised money for the COVID-19 pandemic. At one point, fans hoped they’d see a whole new version of The Goonies in theaters. There were talks abounding of a sequel to The Goonies. Sadly, there hasn’t been any movement on a script. The original film’s director, Richard Donner, also died in 2021. Key Huy Quan affirmed that there’s nothing in the works as of early 2023. But at least we will always have the gift of their 1985 film.
Now, we get to go back nearly 40 years in time and watch The Goonies thanks to its return to movie theaters. The Goonies never say die because this story is forever.
