'Gossip Girl' reboot angers fans: 'Original cast or we don't want it'
Fans are erupting in anger on Twitter after hearing that their favorite Upper East Siders wouldn’t be returning to their “scandalous lives” on Gossip Girl’s reboot.
On Wednesday, WarnerMedia announced that the reboot would stream on their soon-to-launch new service, HBO Max. While the original creators of the show Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are tied to the project, the new release will feature a brand-new cast, and fans are not happy.
“Some shows just can't be rebooted bc they exemplify the spark that happens when just the right cast, characters, and story clicks for just the right generation,” one person wrote. “In 2007 something like Gossip Girl was a total shock + phenomenon. present day gg doesn't work for so many reasons.”

However, the creators say the revival isn’t intended to be the same as the 2007 version and is expected to reflect current-day trends instead.
According to Deadline, the logline is different: “Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The prestige series will address just how much social media — and the landscape of New York itself — has changed in the intervening years.”
Some fans aren’t buying it, and are saying there’s no point even bringing the show back if it doesn’t feature their favorites of Manhattan’s Elite like Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford and Ed Westwick.
Gossip Girl simply would not have been Gossip Girl without Blake Lively, Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick, it is an absolute INSULT to cast anyone else as their part.

#Gossipgirlreboot is the best news I’ve heard today 😍😍 But #gossipgirl without Chuck Bass and Blair Waldorf??? For me These two are the show!!! The makers better be working damn hard on that.

One person even thinks they’re better off just leaving the old show alone and not making a reboot to “preserve the art,” writing that they don’t “want/need a new cast.”

In an interview with PorterEdit, Net-A-Porter’s weekly magazine, Leighton Meester said she isn’t even interested in reprising her role as Queen B.
“A lot of the questions that come from it are: ‘Do you miss it?’ ‘Did you love what you wore?’ And I understand that, but — and I say this with nothing but love — it is like saying, ‘High school was an amazing time for you, do you wish you could go back?’” she told the magazine. “And the truth is, it was so special and such a unique, amazing experience, but no, I wouldn’t wanna go back to it, I was a kid!”
It is unclear whether Meester, or any of the other original cast members, will make an appearance on the revival.
