Grammy Awards’ Parent Company Buys Manhattan Property, Hinting at a Manhattan-Based Show in 2018
The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), parent company of the Grammys, recently completed the purchase of a mansion, a source familiar with the purchase has confirmed to Billboard. The building, which the New York Post reported yesterday (Jan. 3) evening to be worth $13.5 million, is located at 21 E. 37th St., near Manhattan's Murray Hill neighborhood.
That source also confirmed the Grammy's consideration of a New York edition of the annual ceremony.

The show, which has been hosted at the Staples Center in Los Angeles since 2004, held a steady viewership in 2016 after six years of declining ratings.
Reached for comment, a spokesperson for Mayor Bill de Blasio tells Billboard the office has "had very positive discussions with the Recording Academy," and that it hopes to make an announcement "in the coming months."

A story in late November from The New York Times characterized New York City officials as attempting to "lure" the ceremony back east to Madison Square Garden, but that the cost of hosting it in New York had kept it from being seriously considered until recently. City Hall officials told the Times that no tax incentives were part of the discussions.
