Granddaughter of Loretta Lynn, Kentucky native and country legend, performs on 'American Idol'
Loretta Lynn, Kentucky native and renowned country singer, who recently passed away in 2022, is having her granddaughter carry on her legacy, with a recent appearance on “American Idol.”
According to American Idol, Emmy Russell, Lynn’s granddaughter, appeared on the show Sunday night, performing an original piano piece called “Skinny.”
The 24-year-old, from Nashville, impressed judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan, securing a spot in Hollywood. The song, written by Russell and focused on the struggle of eating disorders, wowed the judges.

Who is Emmy Russell?
Russell, granddaughter to Lynn, is a native of Nashville, Tennessee. The 24-year-old singer and songwriter currently has two songs on Spotify, “Skinny,” which Russell auditioned with on “American Idol,” and “Breakup Song,” released on Feb. 24.
Russell has also performed with Lukas Nelson, son of Willie Nelson, and performed in the Grand Ole Opry in April with a song called “Memaw’s Guitar.”
