Greta Gerwig, president of the Cannes Film Festival jury, put a point on her work for the event on Saturday.
Having made history as the first American female director to preside over the jury, Gerwig ascended the steps for the festival’s closing ceremony in a pair of slick pointed-toe slingback shoes.
For the ceremony, where the jury awarded prizes, Gerwig was dressed in a custom gown from Hedi Slimane’s Celine. Styled by Karla Welch, who has put Gerwig in at least 10 looks for this year’s Cannes, the couture gown features an asymmetrical, one shoulder drape as well as a high slit.
Through the slit, fans could spot Gerwig’s shoes, which are Christian Louboutin’s “Hot Chick” sling pumps. The style features Louboutin’s signature red soles. The upper also features a curved design as is customary of the brand’s Hot Chick line. The stiletto is 4 inches, and as a single sole shoe, the style features a steep pitch.
Slingbacks have been a trending silhouette at Cannes. Gerwig has worn them at least three times: earlier in the week, she wore a pair of slingbacks featuring a bold gold buckle and a sculpted heel with a red sequin gown, all from Saint Laurent. But she isn’t the only one. Zoe Saldana wore the same Saint Laurent shoes in a different color while others like Hunter Schafer, Uma Thurman and Selena Gomez wore slingbacks from Roger Vivier and Jimmy Choo. Nicky Hilton was also spotted in a strappy pair of slingbacks from Miu Miu.
Gerwig kicked off this Cannes wearing a look from John Galliano’s viral Maison Margiela Artisanal Collection shown earlier this year. With the look, a poplin sun dress, she wore the Christian Louboutin for Maison Margiela Tabi-style white pumps. Those shoes debuted at the show in January.
