Grey’s Anatomy Stars Rejected for Being Not Pretty or Thin Enough
Now we’ve heard everything. If former Grey’s Anatomy castmates Camilla Luddington (Jo) and Jessica Capshaw (ex-Arizona) had gotten turned down for roles because they weren’t quite right for them… eh, that’s Hollywood. But in the latest edition of their Call It What It Is podcast, they shared rejection anecdotes that left our jaw on the floor.
“I, back in the day, auditioned for a CW show, and the casting director’s feedback was I was not pretty enough,” Luddington revealed. “Excuse you, CW! I was like, whatever.”

In turn, Capshaw, whose mom is Kate Capshaw from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, shared her own shocking story. “I actually very specifically lost a job because I wasn’t thin enough. It was like a romcom, and I worked really, really hard on it.
“I auditioned, and the director was like, ‘You’re my pick. Absolutely. I think you’re fantastic. It’s gonna be amazing… and,’” she continued, “‘the head of the studio thinks that you need to be thinner.’”

Luddington was as aghast to hear that as we were. “I’m a little rebellious, so if I was given 10 days to lose weight,” she said, “the first thing I would do is go eat a hamburger.”
At the end of the day, the twosome wouldn’t and shouldn’t change to meet any rando’s definition of beauty. “You’re gonna go live a life that is healthy in your mind and body,” summed up Capshaw, “and you’re gonna look however it is you look.”
Amen to that. While you’re here, get a sneak peek at Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 and review the below photo gallery of all the upcoming cast changes on that show and many more.
