My Group Chat Is Blowing Up About Natalie Portman’s Jeans

It’s going to be a big jean fall.

My morning started as it usually does. I wake up—always around 7 a.m. because my internal clock is just that. I make my morning tea, open the windows in my apartment, breathe in the fresh air, and browse the internet while I get ready for work. It was a normal Wednesday morning, very easy, very low-key—until I saw Natalie Portman’s outfit, and I had to race to my phone to text my group chat about it.

Before you get too excited—Portman’s outfit isn’t crazy. It’s not over-the-top bold or so out-there that you have to run to your friend and say, “OMG, did you see that look?” In this day and age, I don’t think an outfit needs to be fully maximalist to spark a conversation. Something as simple as a cool pair of jeans is worthy of a mention, which is exactly why I immediately texted my group chat about Portman’s utterly cool, extremely comfy denim that I’ll be living in this fall.

Portman was spotted out and about in Paris, and her low-key, easygoing outfit is penciled into my memory for the next few months. She wore a black, button-down knit, an oversized cardigan coat, and last but certainly not least, cuffed, wide-leg jeans that prove two things: Wide-leg is in for fall, and cuffed hems are back and bigger than ever (literally). That looks like a 6-inch cuff!

I see cuffed, wide-leg jeans as that cool girl everyone wants to be friends with. She’s so easy to talk to (or in this context, wear), and when you speak with her, you feel enlightened. A simple, ahhh, describes the feeling best. The nonchalant nature of this billowy denim silhouette is a breath of fresh air—it’s not trying too hard and rather stands out in its simplicity. The wide-leg is comfy, allowing for ample airflow, while the cuffed hem adds dimension and contrast. Simply put, it’s cool.

What’s more, you can really allow this denim to be the star of the outfit, which can’t be said about all jeans, either. Simply pair the pants with a white tee and cool slingbacks, or go the Portman route by tucking in a black knit and rounding it out with a cozy topper and black booties. No matter how you wear them, cuffed, wide-leg jeans will spark some serious conversations.
